What is the best way to introduce the
Toshiba Regza 42RV665DB 42” LCD TV? An efficient under £550 42 incher perhaps? Sounds good to me. Yes, affordability is what Toshiba is all about and the 42RV665DB stands to prove that. The TV has a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels and a decent dynamic contrast ratio of 50000:1. Performance is satisfactory, if not extraordinary. Pictures are clear and pleasing to the eye – our test Blu-Ray movie was rendered to perfection. There wasn't any artificial edge to them – but we did have to tweak a few controls to attain that perfect picture.
The
Toshiba Regza 42RV665DB HD-Ready LCD TV is again a brainy telly, for it boasts
Toshiba's Meta Brain. Meta Brain is Toshiba's unique processing chip that is responsible for driving the TV's features such as Resolution+, Active Vision Picture Processing, AutoView and Dolby Voume. And as always, the Resolution+ feature that claims to enhance SD resolution to that which is akin to HD does not seem to have its effect. The 42RV665DB handles motion effectively – characters simply glide before your eyes.
An aspect that we liked about the Toshiba Regza 42RV665DB is that, even in dark rooms where most
LCD TVs suffer to impress the viewer, it sits there as proud as ever, with the picture quality nor brightness undistorted one bit. Features such as Auto Description are an added advantage, not to mention our ever-favourite Game Mode. The 42RV665DB boasts an Eco Panel that consumes much lesser power than that of conventional LCD TVs. It also is 'Digital Approved', so you can enjoy free-to-view digital channels even without using the additional digital decoder box.
Verdict:
Toshiba Regza 42RV665DB LCD TV is an average TV with a decent set of features. But if you can throw in a few extra pounds, you can opt for something like the Samsung LE46B652, or even the Philips 42PFL8404H/12, which are sure to bowl you over.
