If there can be a brand that even the staunchest of Samsung, Sony and Philips buffs are partial to, it's undoubtedly Toshiba. Never have we knocked their Regza
LCD TVs hard. And from the initial looks of it, the
Toshiba Regza 37XV635DB 37” LCD TV seemed to be one such. The only aspect about Toshiba's LCD TVs that we're not so crazy about is the design – the 37XV635DB is styled in Toshiba's usual glossy black finish and the funnily shaped stand. There's nothing here that we can praise about, neither does it warrant any critisims. It just is, well, plain.
The
Toshiba Regza 37XV635DB HD-Ready LCD TV is a definite winner when it comes to rendition of HD movies. Our test movie, The Incredible Hulk is the screens of this TV was simply AMAZING. Everything fell in place perfectly – we just couldn't take our eyes off the screen. Every scene appeared to be sculpted afresh – Hulk's flexing muscles, his beastly face, his (Lou Ferrigno's) growl and the mixture of sounds of different kinds in the crammed Rio de Janeiro neighbourhood, every tiniest bit was so effectively rendered.

It's needless to say that this
Toshiba LCD TV handles motion adeptly, what with the presence of 100Hz engine. And black levels are appreciable as well – the look in Hulk's eye – that of tender love tinged with confusion in the dark mountain cave on a rainy night where he runs away with Betty is an example of the TV's excellence. Do the actual figures matter? Well, if you want them, here they are: the Toshiba 37XV635DB has a 1920x1080p resolution and a 50000:1 dynamic contrast ratio that's rightly translated on-screen.
Verdict:
The Toshiba Regza 37XV635DB is one fine TV. It can be compared to our soft-hearted green monster, Hulk to a certain extent. Though it's much of a good-looker, it's darn good inside!
