An overview of Sony's first 3D TV with LED backlight: Bravia KDL-60LX903

sony-3d-tvWithout ranting on about Avatar or the 3D wave or the CES 2010 (the darn event is all over the internet!), let's go straight into the subject, Sony's precious little (not exactly) 3D TV that was announced recently. This top LCD TV is so loaded up to bursting with high-end features that one tends to wonder if it can walk and talk like a cyborg too! Sony has not risked fiddling with the appearance and has stuck to the clichéd glossy-black finish. But it's far from boring, let me tell you that. The frame is actually invisible – that's right, invisible. There is a sheet of glass stretched across to cover the frame as well. The bottom edge also has a silvery, semi-transparent band that makes it all the more interesting. It's ultra-slim (which is no wonder, given the backlight system ) and ultra-glossy to the fullest. The Sony Bravia KDL-60LX903 60” LCD TV with an edge-lit LED backlight system. Now if you think that the LED backlight is the answer to the ultimate black levels, you're only partially correct. Though edge-lit LEDs can render true blacks and clean whites, they are nowhere near the black levels rendered by a Full-Array LED backlight system. Had Sony arranged rows and rows of LEDs behind the panel, 'local dimming' would have been possible. But now than its not possible, the KDL-60LX903 could be  a victim of the problems caused by edge-lit LED backlight. That is, unimpressive black levels and brightening around the edges. This LCD TV has Integrated 3D – that too full HD. Now wouldn't that be amazing? If you're wondering if you'll have to sit in your living room with sleazy card-board glasses on, then you're in for a big surprise. The KDL-60LX903 comes with a pair of rather cool active shutter glasses which shouldn't be all that annoying. But if you're already wearing glasses, God knows how comfortable it'll be. Imagine  answering the door with two pairs of glasses on! Wouldn't the guest thing that he's run into a freak show or something? Oh well, anything for 3D, huh? An interesting feature of this 3D TV is Wi-Fi access. Sony has added quite a lot of aspects that'll give you better internet access that it's previous models: We're talking about the Bravia Internet Video feature using which you can stream videos directly from the Internet. The usual Sony thingies like Motionflow 200Hz PRO, BRAVIA ENGINE 3, Scene Select feature and USB Media Player are all present in this 60 incher and so is the Intelligent Presence Sensor. From the looks of it, the Sony Bravia KDL-60LX903 LCD TV could be a down-right winner. But the price (gulp!) will sure as shooting be sky high.
