If I were given a choice between a slice of sinful chocolate cake and an hour long affair with the oh-so-handsome
Sony Bravia KDL-46HX703 46” LCD TV, I would go for the TV with my eyes closed. Believe me, I wouldn't even mind facing a bloody battle for any thing chocolatey – I'm that mad and coming from me, this is a really big deal. I say so because, this here
LCD TV is something I've been waiting to lay my hands on for a long time.
My initial reactions were: “Oh. Okay. That's nice” - That's a mile away from my expected “Blimey!” Well, may be I was expected too much, because as I went about examining its various nuances, I was struck by a realisation – this TV was better than I expected! Sony has dressed it up with a lot of top-notch features such as Motionflow 200Hz with Image Blur Reduction,
BRAVIA Internet Video and 24p True Cinema that promise the best in everything. Blu-ray movies, for instance simply rock. I tried out 'Twilight' and was instantly impressed.
A few words about the TV's Monolithic design – it's gorgeous. I've written a lot about this design, but cannot seem to stop. Sigh! It's too good to be true. But I just have this small problem about the glassy top sheet – it makes me wonder if its too glossy that it reflects a lot of light. And it's got to make cleaning it a lot more difficult. Oh well, great beauty comes with a price I guess.
Straight to catch the attention of any viewer is the TV's rendition of black levels. For the
Sony Bravia KDL-46HX703, handling pictures with dark backgrounds seems to be a piece of cake. It seems to be dishing out seamless pictures with dashing colours with no apparent effort. Freeview HD is also of the best possible quality – there was no source noise, whatsoever. I hate to keep repeating this over and over, this LCD TV also suffers from poor audio. You just cannot expect it to sound perfect without the use of a surround system.
Verdict:
Superb pictures, average audio and excellent design – this is what the
Sony Bravia KDL-46HX703 is all about. Do I recommend it? Absolutely.
