Reviewing an LCD TV form Sony is generally a walk in the park for, one doesn’t come across any grave issues as such. Except for a few bugs here and there concerning audio and black levels, most of their LCD TVs have well been recommended by us. So, will today’s telly, the Sony Bravia KDL-32V5500 32” LCD TV be any different? The answer is yes. Not only does the Sony KDL-32V5500 overcome the problem of poor audio, it produces sufficient black levels as well. The design is impeccable – the piano black finish with Sony’s signature ‘mirror finish ornament’ at the bottom edge gives this telly a look of utmost refinement.
The Sony Bravia KDL-32V5500 HD Ready LCD TV has a 1920 x 1080p display resolution and houses Sony’s BRAVIA ENGINE 3 whose presence is felt all through out – such is the clarity and detail of the pictures and colours. Like said before, this LCD TV succeeds in rendering very deep black levels and the lighter shades do not lack in anything as well. The Picture Frame Mode and the usual Sony goodies like the USB Photo viewer, media player and music player are all there along with a Photo Map feature that can supposedly show where a particular photo was taken.
This 32 incher is well equipped in terms of connectivity, with highlights including 4 HDMIs, a D-Sub port and a USB 2.0 input. AppliCast, which gives you a range of internet based applications is also present in the KDL-32V5500. If you’re a movie buff, then this LCD TV will be a dream come true indeed. The 24p True Cinema feature enhances the whole experience while the Theatre Mode takes it to a whole new level. Again, as it is so with many of Sony’s LCD TVs, cost is the hitch. Somehow, spending almost a couple of hundred pounds more doesn’t seem all that worth it. For Sony buffs, this may not be the case, though.
