If you’re planning on a world tour next Christmas season and have taken up a new year resolution to save up for the occasion, then be warned: the Sony Bravia KDL-32S5500 32” LCD TV could well make you sprout the devil’s red horns and indulge. This telly is definitely no stunner when it comes to looks. But, (there always is a but!) charms you with its sheer simplicity. It you’re sick of the run-of-the-mill glossy black finishes that are prone to smudgy finger prints (at least I am!), then the smooth matte finish of this LCD TV will surely be a breath of fresh air.
The Sony Bravia KDL-32S5500 HD-Ready LCD TV is well-connected and well-backed with a neat feature-set. It sports 3 HDMIs, a USB input and a PC Input among others, so be it photos from your digital camera, tracks from your mobile phone or videos from your camcorder, this LCD TV plays them all with finesse. This Bravia does not have a full HD resolution; it rather comes with a 1366 x 768p resolution and a dynamic contrast ratio of 25000:1. And of course, Sony’s Bravia engine 2 which assures nearly perfect picture quality is present in this 32 incher.
Also backing it’s performance are Advanced Contrast Enhancer and intelligent noise reduction technologies. Colours are truly natural and lustrous, but black level leave a lot to be desired. No matter how well the pictures are, this deficiency gives you the feeling that something is amiss. The scene select button is pretty interesting to explore – we tried switching to game and cinema modes and the change was evident, which is pretty heartening. A tad too expensive than Samsung’s and LG’s (no surprise, huh?) the Sony Bravia KDL-32S5500 is slightly better than a few of its rivals.
