‘Price and performance are such passionate lovers’ said Chad, a friend of mine. ‘They never part. If price is high, so is the performance. An expensive product will in all probability perform well ‘ Well, not all would agree with that, right? Let’s take the world of LCD Televisions for instance. We’ve come across so many of them that are decently priced and perform well, haven’t we? Can the Samsung LE40B550 40” LCD TV be included in the list?
A large-screen LCD TV at a fairly low price, the Samsung LE40B550 Full HD LCD TV renders fresh and vivid colours, with no sign of artificiality. Possibly the work of the Wide Colour Enhancer. Black levels and contrast will make you sit straight and raise your eye brows. With even the expensive LCD TVs struggling hard to arrive at that perfect black level, this TV manages it effectively. But one tends to wonder if the Samsung LE55B650 had deeper blacks to its credit. But, “The price, price!!” echoes that voice inside your head. This TV has a good 1920 x 1080p display resolution and Samsung’s Digital Natural Image engine.
There are 4 HDMIs – that’s more good news. There also is a PC input, one RF input amidst the usual Scart and headphone ports. Standard definition looks extremely nice in the LE40B550, pictures are pleasing to the eye with a certain inherent sharpness about them. Audio is well, a bit ‘Samsungish’. Some sequences have such pathetic audio levels. On a regular viewing basis, you might not feel it, though. The set measures 998 x 638 x 79.3mm (WXHXD) off the stand, and weighs 14.8kg. The bottom line is, this Samsung LCD TV does not have that many negatives to be slated as average. It is infact above average and even has the looks. For the price, it has got to be grabbed. Now what do you have to say, Chad?
