Starting my first day back at work in the new year with a Samsung LCD TV review indeed brings a smile on my face. Because I know I can get away with not knocking it hard. So I sat back and turned the spotlight on the
Samsung LE22S86 22” LCD TV with a feeling of bon homie. The design of this LCD TV is rather different from the rest of
LCD TVs, the reason – side mounted speakers. This design change does have its own pros and cons. For one, it definitely is not drop-dead gorgeous and is far from slim. On the other hand though, there is a marked improvement in the quality of audio.
It indeed is refreshing to see that a TV of this size has pretty decent audio and is surprisingly better than that of Samsung's higher-end models that suffer from poor audio. The LE22S86 is a
HD-Ready LCD TV and comes with a 1680 x 1050 pixel resolution along with a 2000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. The TV works with a CCFL backlight system, which as we know has quite a lot of drawbacks. Black levels, for example is lacking in body; the same can be said of the brighter shades as well. But other than that, the LE22S86 delivers quite well.
This LCD TV has just one
HDMI port, as is the case with Samsung's other 22” models. But then, it must be pointed out that Sony has managed to provide 2 HDMIs in it's simple stunner, the KDL-22S5500. This 22 incher features Samsung's Digital Natural Image engine (DNIe) which supposedly enhances motion, colour, contrast and detail to deliver crystal clear images irrespective of the source. This processing technique does enhance the said areas, the result of which is quite a sight to watch. The Samsung LE22S86 is not the average
22 inch LCD TV, but it not a hands down winner as well.
