Well, well, well, our first review of an LCD TV from the plasma TV groundbreaker, Pioneer. Pioneer has won hands-down in the race for ‘The Best’ plasma TV in the industry. With several ardent buffs for it’s expensive but high quality plasma TVs, LCD TVs from the brand did indeed raise many expectations alongside eyebrows. Here is a quick look at the KURO KRL-37V’s main specifications: The Pioneer KURO KRL-37V 37” LCD TV has a full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080p, is HD ready, and features 100Hz processing, which promises to deliver smooth, seamless action. The brushed aluminum look of this TV might have a lot of admirers, but it might leave some wondering if something is amiss in the looks of this TV, though it is obvious that a lot of care has gone into the design.
The Pioneer KURO KRL-37V HD ready LCD TV has a 176 degree viewing angle, 3 HDMIs and has Integrated Digital DVB-T and Analogue Terrestrial Tuner. It should be mentioned that the KURO KRL-37V lacks a fourth HDMI that is present in most LCD TVs of today – disappointing indeed. It comes along with electronic programming guide and auto channel search. A notable aspect of this LCD TV is that, it features Pioneer’s exclusive Plasma technology, Advanced PureCinema. This feature automatically detects film sources and boosts the refresh rate to75 Hz, thereby rendering the picture with a quality on par with that of a movie theatre. This TV weighs about 18kg and measures about 898 x 581 x 96.6mm (W x H x D). ‘High Contrast Filter’ is an appreciable feature of this LCD TV. This filter wonderfully enhances the contrast and gives new dimensions to colour definition. Kudos!
Further addition to the Pioneer KURO KRL-37V’s list of pros is the black level response. Blacks look deeper and richer, thanks to the automatic backlight adjustment function. Shadow detail is commendable, all of which give you a thoroughly enjoyable viewing experience. There is also an ambient light sensor that adjusts the pictures as per the lighting conditions in the room. The KURO LINK ought to be a favourite of many, for using this, you can control several Pioneer compatible AV devices using a single remote control. Audio is pretty decent, though not as good as Pioneer’s plasmas. The KURO KRL-37V has Integrated under-mount speakers with a total audio output of 20W. In all, the Pioneer KURO KRL-37V is a fine TV, does not lack in anything crucial. But one can’t help but compare it with Pioneer’s Plasmas. This Pioneer LCD TV doesn’t quite meet the expectations set by Pioneer’s KURO plasmas. Has Pioneer been caught in it’s own trap?
