Tobias: “The Philips 47PFL8404H/12 LCD TV - A svelte stunner that bowled me over”

lonely-christmas-cottage-lcdtvreviews.org.ukHowdy friends! How’s it going? I’m as pumped up as usual. I just came back from this most amazing dinner I’ve ever had. The best part was “There was so much on the table!’ Let me fill you up. My colleague and good friend Adrian invited me over to his Aunt’s place. “She’s an amazing cook, man” he often said. And finally dragged me over today. And boy, was I stunned! The table simply overflowed with dishes that I hadn’t even seen in my life. Many were from the Victorian age, being 67, Mrs Mackenzie has quite a lot of recipes tucked inside that amazing brain of her’s. I relished quite a lot of scrumptious dishes, whose names I know not. But stuff like Steak and Chips, Beef and chestnut suetcrust pie and Bangers and mash that I’ve had before were cooked to perfection. Then there was this oh-so-delicious Cottage Pie! My mother makes pies quite well but this! It was simply awesome!

What a pleasant surprise it was to find a wall mounted LCD TV in her living room. That too, my favourite Philips. On closer look it turned out to be the Philips 47PFL8404H/12 47″ LCD TV. While Adrian and Mrs Mackenzie decided to go for a stroll in the woods, I said that I was too tired and why don’t they go ahead without me? And they did, leaving me alone with the TV for a whole hour! I grabbed the remote and skimmed across channels, first not noticing anything in the screens, for my eyes were glued to the sheer glossiness of the bezel. How elegant, how refined it looked! It was then that I noticed that the presence of this telly was a highlight to the living room!

Straight away, I guessed the display resolution, 1920 x 1080 pixels and after a little research back home, I learned that the dynamic screen contrast was about 80000:1. I settled to watch a movie, Madagascar, if you want the name and was spell bound by the richness of the picture. Colours looked so neat, without the slightest over-tone. The star-strewn night sky looked crystal clear, and I noted that the Philips 47PFL8404H/12 Full HD LCD TV rendered superb black levels. I later learned that the LCD TV has a Pixel Precise 100 Hz panel, which supposedly renders top-quality HD and smooth motion. But with this, I have to disagree, for occasionally I did find flaws with motion handling.

Tobias: The Philips 47PFL8404H/12 LCD TV - A svelte stunner that bowled me over But I was completely bowled over by the Ambilight spectra, the TV actually looked magnified and the room seemed magical! But I must admit that the pools of light did annoy me after a point of time. I also found that the Philips 47PFL8404H/12 had an invisible sound system, and audio was pretty decent. My most favourite aspect of the TV however, was Net TV. All I did was connect the TV to the home network and lo, before me was the menu that I could select from using the remote control. That was when I was convinced that the Philips 47PFL8404H/12 LCD TV can make a fantastic Christmas present. I knew I can never afford it, but I recommend it to you guys. Go for it, and see your recipient glow!

By then, the twosome were back looking as jolly as ever. We sat till dusk chatting away, and I laughed like I’ve never laughed before. I was in love with this little old lady and told her so. She smiled and pecked me on my cheek; that’s when I realised how lonely she must be in the cottage tucked into a corner, far off from the buzz of the city.
