I've always been a fan of
Philips' LCD TVs. Despite their over-the-top price, once you have a full dose of the myriad features stuffed in and the drop-dead gorgeous looks, you tend to start saving up for one of them, even though you know deep down that you can't afford one for the next couple of years! The
Philips 32PFL9604 32" LCD TV is one such TVs that costs around (gulp!) £800. You might exclaim "I ain't spending that much on a 32" TV!" at this, but wait till you hear about what all this
LCD TV has to offer. For a start, the appearance of this TV is so typical of Philips - drop-dead gorgeous, that is.
Without the boring glossiness, Philips has gone in for an aluminium and charcoal grey frame which looks refined and stately. Starting with the audio for a change, the
Philips 32PFL9604 Full HD LCD TV has two integrated subwoofers and two powerful dome tweeters that are responsible for a brilliantly mellifluous audio performance. As a result, even the subtlest of background tunes are rendered beautifully, something for which we were yearning for quite sometime and never did find it in most of the top LCD TVs. "Ambilight Spectra 2 enhances the viewing experience" says Philips. Which cannot be expressed better. This feature has got to be experienced by every movie buff, really. For, say a spine-chilling murder scene under the moonlight is made to look as shuddery as it can get with light spilling from the sides.
The 32PFL9604 has a resolution of 1920 x 1080p, quoted dynamic contrast ratio of 80,000:1 and a 176º viewing angle. There are also various picture enhancement techniques provided which work wonders for the picture quality. HD sources and standard definition alike appear gloriously seamless and detailed. Black levels aren't disappointing either. A first-class telly with no flaws worth mentioning, but again, the price is a dampener. Perhaps it will come with some nice deals and offers.
