For all the Philips buffs out there, the LCD TV in our spotlight of the day could be a slight disappointment, but for those of you who have kept a fair distance from them, mocking that they're way too expensive and worthless but still secretly desiring them, we have some good news. The Philips 32PFL7404 32” LCD TV is a budget TV from Philips, well by budget TV we don't REALLY mean budget, but in the standards of Philips, budget it is. This set can be snaffled for a less than £530, it you tended to keep your eyes open for the best online deal. Now isn't that good news? I mean, at last the common man gets to revel in the comforts of a Philips LCD TV!
The Philips 32PFL7404 Full HD LCD TV is decently featured, though not as loaded as those form Philips that we've reviewed before. The TV features Pixel Precise 100 Hz LCD and has a super-fast 3 ms response time. The Perfect Pixel HD processing technology that creates breathtakingly brilliant pictures is missing; it's not that the 32PFL7404 fails to render clear images, but one does tend to catch glimpses of flickers around certain parts of the picture, especially around the edges.
This 32 incher of course has a 1920 x 1080p resolution and the dynamic contrast ratio quoted is 80000:1. Speaking of contrast, the 32PFL7404 impresses, and you can also adjust it using the Pixel Precise HD menu which is pretty simple to use and so is the remote control. Blu-Ray movies – ah, were they a treat to watch or what! We sampled Batman: The Dark Knight and were very impressed indeed. Black-levels, it must be said are brilliant, deep and detailed, the dark alleys of Gotham were scintillating. Motion is fluid – Batman's agile moves did not have any significant motion blurs. Sturdy and steady, the Philips 32PFL7404 is definitely worth your time and money.
