Panasonic TX32LXD700 LCD TV and
Sony KDL-32D3000 LCD TV on the measuring scale, one really wonders which direction the needle would tilt. Both Panasonic and Sony are brands that have carved a great niche for themselves in the world of home theatre systems. Putting their
LCD TVs to test together, is a challenging task.
Both the 32” LCD TVs have black bezels. The Panasonic TX32LXD700 has a thicker bezel, with 2 speakers attached to the left and right sides. The 100Hz picture processing technology has been employed with both the LCD TVs, for enhancing fluidity in motion pictures. These HD Ready LCD TVs have a common screen resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. With 3 HDMI inputs each, both LCD TVs are capable of connecting to HD sources like Blu Ray, Playstation 3 or Sky HD and giving fine detailed images. In addition to this, Sony KDL-32D3000 LCD TV also incorporates the 24p True Cinema feature for reproducing movies at 24 frames per second for achieving good viewing accuracy. The 2 LCD TVs also play hosts to the HDMI CEC feature – called Viera Link in Panasonic TX32LXD700 and Bravia Link in Sony KDL-32D3000. This feature, allows controlling of the devices connected via the HDMI links, using a single remote control. Another common feature is the integrated digital tuner that come in both these TVs.
Sony KDL-32D3000 comes laden with a good set of connections that include a digital optical audio output, a D-Sub PC port with audio input, a component input, an S-Video input, 2 RGB enabled Scart inputs, a headphone minijack, a PCMCIA card slot, RCA audio ouput, RCA AV input and an RF input. The TV is also equipped with 2 S-Force Front surround speakers that are designed to give real 3D effect in rooms of any size.
Panasonic LCD TVs connection set is quite similar, with 2 RGB-enabled Scarts, one of them being S-Video compatible, a component input, a VGA PC input, a composite input, an S-Video input, a headphone jack, analogue stereo and RCA jacks, an SD Card slot and a digital optical audio output. The audio system consists of 2 stereo speakers with SRS TruSurround XT technology, to give impressive sound effects.
Both LCD TVs present their own picture processing techniques and both do their jobs well. Sony KDL-32D3000 houses the Bravia Engine, to give enhanced picture quality and colour. The Theatre mode option of this device produces authentic studio-like images and colours. Another technology that is employed in the Sony machine is the MotionFlow system, which makes moving objects look clear. Black levels presented by the LCD panel are good as well. This TV also has the Audio Description feature for guiding visually impaired people with the TV operations. Panasonic TX32LXD700 performs its picture processing with the V-Real 2 image processor. Its IPS Alpha panel definitly assures good picture quality and satisfying viewing experience. The black levels presented are fine too. One additional feature that this TV has, is its power on/off button, that gives you the choice of switching the TV off, instead of letting it stay in stand-by mode.
