We're looking at one of LG's more expensive models – the 32LD790 and thinking, 'Now what's the big deal with this anyway?' And as though it has been reading your mind all along, the TV slowly pulls you towards it and in the end somehow wins your heart. The
LCD TV looks nice, but LG's usual magic seems to be missing. The frame is not a complete rectangle – the bottom edges are slightly angled and a tinge of delicious crimson plays at the bottom edge. The overall effect is decent if not first-class.
The first aspect with which the
LG 32LD790 32” LCD TV impresses you is motion handling. Equipped with TruMotion 200Hz, it's only natural that fast action scenes are rendered with matchless clarity. During our tests, we checked out a few horse chases and some scenes from Tokyo Drift and were very impressed. The 32LD790 adeptly removes irritating motion blur such that at times you just can't help but hope for some imperfection! Well, what we mean is certain fast sequences are way too seamless that there's a sense of artificiality hanging in the air.
But this is just a matter of opinion though. For most, this state of flawlessness could be just perfect. The 32LD790 has a resolution of 1920 x 1080p and the contrast ratio is quoted to be 80,000:1. Picture quality is a definite top-class but its Freeview HD that brings home the bacon. According to LG's website,
Freeview HD can give “ up to 5 times the picture quality of standard definition freeview.” We're not sure if the Freeview quality we were treated to was five times that of SD Freeview, but we can say that Freeview was a treat to watch. Colours, black levels, contrast and brightness were at their best.
NetCast is another highlight of the
LG 32LD790 HD-Ready LCD TV. Imagine enjoying online content without a PC! All it takes is an Ethernet cable (the TV comes with a built-in Ethernet port) or a WiFi USB dongle for you to connect to your broadband connection at home and goggle at YouTube videos in the 32” screen from the plush living room couch!
Verdict
The LG 32LD790, though on the expensive side, has quite a lot to make up for the price.
