LG Infinia 42LE7900 LED TV

Our very first Infinia – The LG Infinia 42LE7900 LED TV. Initially, when this TV landed in our work table, there was an internal war going on as to who will get their hands on it. Lucky me! The plane truth is, it's the name 'Infinia' that seduced me in the beginning. It's undeniably stylish and is sure to catch on like Bravia and Regza. Thus I approached the 42LE7900 with a mountain-load of expectations. Design-wise, this LED TV bags the grand prize. True, I have a special spot for Philips when it comes to design, but this time LG almost, just almost managed to arrive at Philips' spot. The LG Infinia 42LE7900 42” LED TV has redefined the adjective 'slim'. The TV is backlit by LEDs placed at the edges – which explains the slenderness. The best part about the design is the way the screen and bezel are merged to appear on the same surface. And neck – it's one handsome thing. Tapering downwards, in a deep brownish crimson that gleams, the 42LE7900 is a design masterpiece. Rubbing my hands in glee, I moved on to the pictures. Immediately, I was impressed. The 42LE7900 commands respect when it comes to Blu-Ray and Freeview, for they are amazingly flawless. While the brighter and more colour-filled scenes appeared so full of life, the darker scenes were no less. But it's now when the TV reveals its first flaw – lackadaisical black levels. In spite of having an LED backlight system, the 42LE7900 does not attain that truest black. However, on-screen movements are smooth enough, with no sign of blurs around the edges, an aspect for which TruMotion 100Hz deserves credit. NetCast is what LG seems proud of, but honestly, it's nothing new other than weather forecast widgets and access to Picasa and YouTube. But we reckon LG will take this service further in the future. The LG 42LE7900 has a good load of connectivity options – there are the usual 4 HDMIs, USB 2.0 port that's capable of DivX HD, MP3 and Jpeg playback, an Ethernet port and Bluetooth. Using the TV's Bluetooth connectivity, you can enjoy the videos you captured in your Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone in the 42” flatscreen and also send your favourite tracks to your handset. Coming to the final flaw of this 42 incher, audio, it indeed is a little disappointing that something that's such a marvelous piece of entertainment lacks is something as basic as audio. It's not that it's hopeless – it's actually decent for everyday viewing. But when you switch to action movies, the sound doesn't carry the required punch. Verdict At the end of the day, the LG Infinia 42LE7900 LED TV did manage to impress me with its drop-dead gorgeous design and equally gorgeous pictures. It does have a few flaws here and there, but the fact that it's an Infinia, the fact that it carries the fragrancy of the latest tech in the industry makes up for them completely.
