Samsung LN-S5797D LCD TV Review
May 2, 2007
The Samsung LN-S5797D is a HDTV compatible, wide screen LCD TV with a significantly, high price tag. Its 57” screen, sleek design, 1080p compatibility and high resolution features try to make this price tag justifiable. While LCD TVs of similar size from other brands hit the market with cheaper price tags, this LCD can’t help sounding very expensive.
However, we found this LCD TV displays crisp, sharp, true-to-life pictures that enthrall the viewers and make this LCD TV ideal for viewing HDTV materials from DVD and HDTV channels.
Main Features:
- 57” LCD screen
- Native resolution: 1982×1080 pixels
- Dynamic contrast ratio up to 4000:1
- CCFL (Cold Cathode Flurorescent Lamp) backlight
- S-PVA panel
- 10 bit video processor capable of producing 12.8 billion colours
- Digital comb filter
- Requires HDTV receiver
- Computer input
Larger LCD TVs (above 42”) are still not within the range of affordability for most of us. Even if the features claimed by LCD makers outweigh the price tag, one still has to check the validity of such claims and make a comparison of LCD TVs available in the market. This TV is nearly 40 percent more expensive than its counterpart LCD TVs. Here, we see a minor disadvantage that this TV has.
The technical specifications of this TV are quite impressive. This LCD TV has a 10 bit video processor that can produce nearly 13 billion colours. Its native resolution is 1080 p. Its dynamic contrast ratio is well over 4000:1. The pictures rendered by this LCD TV look smoother, brighter, sharper when compared with some of the best larger LCD TVs. Keep this fact in your mind: The output quality of any display depends primarily on the high-density pictures and secondarily on the picture processing performance of the TV. We say this TV is ideal for viewing High Definition video sources which have standard aspect ratio of 16:9 and HDTV resolutions ranging between 720p and 1080p.
This LCD TV has a 3:2 pull-down feature which minimizes the trailing effects when you view fast movements during a movie or a televised sport event. The artifacts are barely visible even when you watch the scenes in the original 16:9 aspect ratio. The backlight of this LCD is a Cold Cathode Flurorescent Lamp (CCFL) which provides ample light for a brighter display. With less amount of glaring, this LCD TV is what you need for a bright, spacious room.
