3 d gesture recognition system Want to turn down the TVs volume? Simply wave your hand!Sometime in the future, we may be able to channel trot by simple hand gestures. Turning the volume up or down will be a breeze, for you will just need to wave your hand to do so. And moves of the on the screen Mario can also be controlled by your movements. The time for such technological luxuries is not far, we might even be able to get our hands on them by next Christmas! Researchers are on their way to implement a 3-D gesture recognition system that will supposedly hurl remote controls and touchscreens out the window!

Texas Instruments has teamed up with Brussels based software company Softkinetic to develop such advanced systems that will let us change channels and control the volume by simply flicking our hand. Softkinetic CEO Michel Tombroff was quoted by Discovery News as saying that their objective was to bring out such systems in the consumer market by Christmas 2011 in order for people to try them out.

He also said that the  3-D camera technology will “completely transform the way people interact with television”, the same way Nintendo Wii did to video games. The CEO added that the 3-D gesture recognition system will include a 3-D camera that will resemble a webcam which can be mounted on the TV set or computer screen. The camera will supposedly be able to analyse gestures without the user having to be specially equipped. “It’s really the ultimate gesture-based solution” said  Tombroff.
