Television turns Cupid

cupid on air-lcdtvreviews.org.ukApart from entertaining us all its untiring life, there’s much more to the faithful goggle box whose home is our living room. We’ve seen how television helped a woman conquer her fear of birds; we’ve seen how it gave us a hand to fight disaster; why, we’ve even seen how it saved the life of a man. But have you ever heard of television donning Cupid’s role? Indeed it did for the sake of a Second Class Warrant Officer in Afghanistan.

Thirty five year old Nick Walker proposed to his girlfriend Colleen Brady who was in the UK. Walker popped the question from Camp Bastion in the Helmand province to Miss Brady who was sitting with Tina Walker, Walker’s mother  in the studio of GMTV. The soldier went down on his knees live on television and spoke with his voice thick with emotion. He said, “Colleen, I’m sorry I can’t be with you this Christmas, but I want to try and make it as special as I can since I’m away in Afghanistan.” “Colleen, you’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me” he went on, and then said the magic words: “Will you marry me?” Fighting back tears, Colleen  said, “Of course I will”.
