Business intelligence and strategic services provider Informa predicts that by 2014, there will be over 70 million households paying for IPTV. According to Informa, the global pay towards IPTV will “more than double to 70 million by end-2014”, which is 20 million more than that of 2009’s end. Revenues will also see a steep rise, that is, from £2.85bn in 2009, the figures will stand at £7.6bn in 2014, according to Informa.
The study also predicted that only about 5% of households in the world will subscribe to IPTV by 2014 and that only 13 countries in the world will be having over 1 million IPTV subscriptions. This low figure can be partly attributed to an indisposition to give up the already established and paid for TV hardware, feel Informa. With a small chunk of the population already utilizing services like the BBC iPlayer and Hulu, it only is a matter of time for internet to eat up every possible sphere of life!
