The best thing about Hannspree’s LCD TVs is that they’re cheap. If you’re the type who likes a bit of change every now and then, their LCD TVs are well worth a try. But before you do, we’re bound to tell you that you’ll probably end up replacing the set within months. The Hannspree ST281MAB 28” LCD TV we are sorry to say, is one such TVs. To begin with, the ho-hum design is constituted by a mirror black finish, over which smudgy finger prints are sure to have a field day. The matte black speaker paneling along the lower border does a wee bit to enhance the looks, except that it looks a little out-of-date.
Hannspree ST281MAB Full HD LCD TV has a resolution of 1920 × 1200, which is unusual, given that Hannspree prefers to call it Full HD. The dynamic contrast ratio quoted is 10000:1, while the brightness and response time are about 400 cd/m² and 5 ms respectively. Analysing the pictures of the ST281MAB is definitely not an easy job, I tell you – for there are millions of things that are wrong and you need to be enduring, really enduring. While colours are gaudy and unrealistic, black levels are worse.
After functioning for say two hours continuously, flickering around the moving parts of the picture is predominant, not to mention extreme levels of brightness around objects of the brighter shades. If you happened to connect your Blu-ray player to one of the 2 HDMI ports, you might be surprised to see clear and sharp images. But then, like a desert mirage, the quality disappears and you’re left sulking. The Hannspree ST281MAB is cheap in two ways – price and quality.
