Always at the receiving end of knocks, we do feel a bit sorry for Hannspree. But not sorry enough to go easy on it''s LCD TV of the day – the
Hannspree ST281 28” LCD TV. First of all, the TV looks pretty cheap. In print, it looks like one heck of a good looker, but in person, it's no where near that. Before I proceed any further, it must be mentioned that I am not an antagonist, nor am I a meanie, it's just that this TV did not come even close to satisfying me. 1080p
High Definition is what Hannspree has to say about this TV's resolution, which we feel is a bit strange, given that the resolution quoted is 1920 × 1200 pixels. But we might as well shrug it off, for the picture quality is pretty far from full HD.
The ST281 quotes a dynamic contrast ratio of 10000:1, and has a 16:10 aspect ratio, which again is strange, for the TV is a 28 incher. If video is bad, audio is worse. Tinny and scratched at times, sonically, the ST281 is a complete disappointment. But we refrain from maintaining the same for the pictures – the reason, Freeview. Saving face bigtime, Freeview quality is worth a lot of appreciation. Clear and pleasing, Freeview movies are worth a watch in the screens of the
Hannspree ST281 Full HD LCD TV.
Colours and black levels, as expected, do not deliver. The black level deficiency can be overlooked to a certain extent, for even top LCD TV makers have not countered this problem completely. But ill-defined colour tones, can in no way be excused. Turbulent and dull, the ST281 does tend to annoy us with it's rendition of colours. Bright areas of the picture appear overtly white, which leaves you searching for the remote control. Talking about the remote, it must be said that this
LCD TV has an easy-to-use remote control, with soft responsive buttons. Though inexpensive, the ST281 is inadvisable.
