HANNspree ST221MBB LCD TV
November 22, 2009
Basketball, French fries, Elephant, Dog, Lion, Apple, Giraffe - This is not little Jim’s “Things to draw list” dear readers. It is actually the shapes of HANNspree’s LCD TVs! Known for their funky shaped tellies for kids, HANNspree do manufacture other ‘boring’ shapes of LCD TVs too. Among them is the HANNspree ST221MBB 22″ LCD TV. The TV looks a bit um… normal. ‘Minimalistic design’ is how HANNspree put it and it is by all means decent. HANNspree has gone in for a glossy black finish that’s made interesting with a black mesh speaker that runs along the bottom edge of the frame. The TV will definitely look pretty inside a bedroom or kitchen - this is the bottom line.
This LCD TV from the HANNspree ST Series has a display resolution of 1680 × 1050 and a typical contrast ratio of 1000:1. Pictures, though not of the calibre of LG and Sony are pretty sharp without that many apparent glitches. Colours are good on the eye, though skin tones tend to look a bit over-saturated. The ST221MBB has just one HDMI port, which is a pity for, presently most of the LCD tellies of the size atleast have 2 HDMIs. (The Sony KDL-22E5310 has 4 HDMIs for God’s sake!) There is a VGA port though, so you can use the LCD screen as a PC monitor.
Teletext is included in the ST221MBB, so are features like Freeze Picture, Favorite Channel, Channel Edit and Wide Mode Viewing. In the audio aspect, the HANNspree ST221MBB disappoints us, for it lacks clarity. Voices sound rather dull and low. Motion handling could have been better, for fight scenes are rendered with less vigour than they deserve. The HANNspree ST221MBB LCD TV has a lot of aspects that call for improvement. Oh well, not all TVs are perfect, right?
