Hannspree’s LCD TVs never did manage to impress us. The same can’t be said of their LCD TVs for kids, though. The darn things look cute enough to not be knocked hard. But when it comes to serious business, Hannspree appears to be struggling to put things together. Will the Hannspree HT09 28” LCD TV be any better? Sadly, no. The TV looks good with a black mirror finish and a silver speaker panelling along the lower border. But is in no way near slim. There is a chrome inset right in the middle of the speaker panel that houses a power LED. The inset spoils things, at least for me.
The HT09 is a Full HD LCD TV, which is a pleasant surprise for, even small-screen LCD TVs from those of top brands like the Philips 26PFL3404D/12 LCD TV, have not managed to give full HD. The TV has a native contrast ratio of 800:1 and the brightness level quoted is about 500 cd/m². Moving on to the picture quality, this LCD TV suffers considerably from lack of sharpness and poor detailing. Rendition of bright colours, say knolls of nodding flowers in the 28” screens was astonishing on first sight, but when you tend to take a better look, the colours appear all fuzzy and movements messy.
By now, I get the feeling of being extra mean so I take a deep breath, pray to the Almighty to save this poor telly from the mean me and start to look at its good side. Immediately, my prayers are answered. Black levels of the HT09, save face. (Phew!) Audio is pretty appreciable too, for a TV this size. But price brings home the bacon for the HT09. It costs just £268! Now, that’s not bad for a 28” LCD TV, right? I mean there are 2 HDMIs, so gamers who have no time to spare for trivialities like watching Blu-Ray movies can plug in their game consoles and play for hours on end. For this, the HT09 deserves an affectionate pat.
