Hannspree HANNSsteamloc LCD TV

Hannspree HANNSsteamloc LCD TVHere's another one of Hannspree's funny er...funky LCD TVs – The Hannspree HANNSsteamloc 10” LCD TV. This TV for a change is not encased in a soft elephant, giraffe or lion. It's enclosed in an unbelievably cute steam locomotive engine complete with life-like wheels, a bell that actually works and an LED headlight which is also the on/off switch. The frame is of a mild blue shade while the engine is composed of a combination of a darker shade, white and grey. The overall effect is very appealing, though the the Firetruck looked better to my eyes. The Hannspree HANNSsteamloc EDTV-Ready LCD TV has a display resolution of 800 x 600 pixels with a 450:1 contrast ratio and 350 cd/m2 of brightness level. This LCD Television is no down-right winner when it comes to performance, but it proves to be pretty decent. Color tones are consistent and distinction between the various shades of black is brought out effectively. The TV houses a standard NTSC television tuner and a 3-line digital comb filter that is supposed to enhance the clarity and detail of pictures. But it doesn't work, to be honest. It's difficult to see what this filter does to the pictures, for there's hardly any clarity when it comes to fast-paced action scenes. You can't connect your Blu-Ray player, for there are no HDMI ports; but there are S-Video and RF input ports, so you can plug in your DVD player at least. The speakers are placed right behind, the result of which voices sound rather muffled and far-away. But we have to hand it to Hannspree – they're the best when it comes to creativity.
