Vizio’s CEO talks of plans for the future
US-based consumer electronics company Vizio has announced that it plans to ship 3 to 4 million LED TVs in 2010. This number is mammoth when compared to this year’s 100,000 units. Vizio’s founder and CEO William Wang said that, of the company’s total LCD TV shipments for this year, LCD TVs with an LED backlight system will account for less than 5%. The CEO added that they expect to raise this figure ten fold by the fourth quarter of 2010.
Vizio has indicated that it has plans of launching LED TVs of various screen sizes next year. Mr Wang also said that the prices of large-screen LED TVs are bound to come down in the next three years or so. The company is waiting to raise the curtains over 3D TVs, ultra-thin LCD TVs with an edge-lit LED backlight, TVs with a 21:9 aspect ratio and Internet enabled TVs in the CES next year, according to Mr Wang.
