TV license dodgers make up ridiculous excuses
How does an adult blaming his pet dog, pigeon or 11-year old for not paying his television license sound? Ridiculous? Silly? Humorous? A mixture of all the three perhaps? In the present financial conditions television viewers who have failed to pay their annual TV license fee are increasingly growing in number. Over 280,000 viewers who failed to pay the £142.50 annual fee were caught over the first eight months of this year. The TV licensing authorities have revealed a list of the most bizarre excuses given by TV license evaders. Some of them are way too rib-tickling while some are outright outrageous.
One license dodger said that a baby magpie flew into his house and he had to stay in and feed it. Another couple of householders claimed their TVs were watched more by their dog and blind horse(!) and so their license fee should be cut. Another crazy excuse is that of a man who claimed that his wife had her hair done twice a week and so they found it difficult to pay. A parent of an 11-year old said that their son must have bought the TV at night for it was not there when they had gone to bed. Jon Shaw, a spokesperson for TV Licensing said that TV license evaders could face a fine of upto £1,000 and that they are breaking the law.
Looks like telly license fee evaders are imaginative enough to write their own book titled: “How to evade TV license: Some tips and tricks.” Will it become a bestseller? Why, maybe it could even beat ‘The lost symbol!’
