February 1, 2010

watching and eating Too much TV can make you a tele tubbyA recent study indicates that watching too much of TV can make you fat. According to the nutrition expert of The Times, a small research involving about 36 volunteers was conducted recently that points to a link between obesity and too much TV. Researchers fit the televisions of 20 volunteers with automated devices that turned off their TV sets once they has spent 50% of their regular weekly viewing time.

Volunteers who spent only half their normal viewing time were found to abstain from 244 calories a day. They burnt 119 more calories during the day than the usual and were also found to consume fewer calories. There figures amount to a total of  89,000 calories saved over a year , which according to the health expert is equivalent to  9.5kg in weight.

Though it is necessary to carry out the study on a large scale for further substantiation, it indeed is an indication that spending too many idle hours in front of the television could make us gain a few extra flabs. So, watch what you watch.
