The Simpsons’ Angolan television debut
Executive Center, an Angolan ad agency, has given The Simpsons a make-over. The fictional American family has been turned brown from yellow on occasion of their TV debut in the African continent. The ad is promoting The Simpsons first appearance in Dstv, a satellite LCD television channel. Aired first on December 17, 1989, The Simpsons begin their 20th anniversary this December.
The advertisement shows the American family with brown skin sitting in a couch flagged by huge stereo speakers. Marge’s hair has been turned jet black from blue while Lisa’s has been braided. Their clothes are Angolan-inspired and the family is seen sporting flip-flops. The usual wall hanging of a yacht has also been replaced by that of a Serengeti elephant scene. However, the family is expected to retain their usual yellow looks when the show will begin in Dstv next month.
Broadcast in more than 90 countries, the sitcom has been translated into over 45 languages. Set in the fictional city of Springfield, the sitcom satirizes American society and culture.
