Sony’s New Cost Cutting Ideas
According to Yomiuri Shimbun, a Japanese National Newspaper Sony will be increasing its export of LCD Television panels from Taiwanese manufacturers from 30% to 50%. In other words, half of the LCD televisions from Sony will have HDTV displays that are manufactured in Taiwan.
The LCD panel constitutes 70% of a television’s manufacturing cost. Sony has stressed on the importance of cost cuttings as it saw its sixth consecutive loss by 2010. To add to this, Sony has also decided against investing in Sharp’s Sakai LCD plant (Though this was the original plan devised to improve on the quality of the Lcd panels). The Taiwan-made LCD panels are supposed to be cost consuming and will fit into the Bravia range of televisions in future.
From now on, same models of LCDs will provide separate quality of displays owing to the different panels used. Television enthusiasts should be aware of this factor and try their best to get the right panel for their LCDs. If not, it is possible that you could end up complaining that your television is not performing upto your expectation or upto what the reviews promise. So buyers, beware!.
