Sony plans to plunge into action with low-priced LCD TVs
With the current economic crunch spoiling things for Sony, it looks like the electronics giant is all set for a come back with low-priced LCD TVs. Following in Vizio footsteps, Sony has announced a budget LCD TV series, the B series. Reportedly, the B series will come in 32 and 40 inch models and will cost lower than the entry-level S series LCD TVs. The 32″ model will apparently cost $460 (equivalent to 277 GBP). Industry experts believe that Sony’s move could well be the break that it’s looking for and that its position in the global LCD TV market can be regained since budget TVs from the manufacturer is bound to be welcomed with open arms.
The question as to how Sony plans to achieve such low-priced TVs does arise, for which sources say that it will bank on the ‘cost competitiveness’ and ‘production flexibilities’ of Taiwanese TV makers. The B series LCD TVs will supposedly hit the markets in 2010 and when it does, a price war among the top manufacturers is sure to begin.
