Sharp creates breakthrough by announcing new Aquos LED LCD TV series with fourth colour sub-pixel
In what could be a revolutionary breakthrough in television technology, Sharp Electronics has announced a new series of LED LCD TVs that make use of a fourth colour sub-pixel, yellow apart from the traditional red, green and blue. The Japanese electronics giant announced this at a prestigious event that was conducted in London’s West End.
The inclusion of yellow into their colour gamut will give the TVs the ability to display billions of colours, thereby adding on to the entire quality of images. According to neuroscientist Dr Jack Lewis, the addition of yellow to the standard colours will create numerous colour tones. Sharp is mimicking the “critical features of the brain’s visual system” in its new technology which will “ ultimately make us feel more involved in things we watch on TV, whether it’s playing a video game with your mates, cheering on your team or watching the latest action thriller.”
The models in the series include LC-LE821E, LC-LE921E and LC-LE811E that are available in 40” and 60” versions and the LC-LE920 which is available in 60” version alone. Sharp is looking to release the models around May this year.
