Samsung LED TV ads banned

samsung led tv-lcdtvreviews.org.ukSamsung has been rebuked by the Advertising Standards Authority for using the term ‘LED TV’ for advertising it’s LCD TVs that came with an LED backlight.

Television and magazine advertisements of Samsung LED TV were banned by the ASA on grounds of misleading and false advertising. They upheld complaints against the advertisements that they misled customers into taking that the TVs had a full LED display, while in truth they only had an LED backlight system. The marketing self-regulatory body have thus advised Samsung against using the term ‘LED TV’ to describe it’s LED backlit TVs henceforth.

Samsung defended itself saying that the term was used commonly to describe the technology used and that other companies also used it to describe the kind of televisions in question. It also pointed out that the term was used by consumers as an evolved form of the term ‘LED-based LCD TV.’ However, the ASA was not convinced and argued that the term was not used consistently in the industry. It also advised Samsung to ‘describe the technology accurately’ in future.
