February 27, 2010

philips-cinema-21:9Remember the Philips Cinema 21:9? The immersive pictures…seamless motion..the magical ambilight – all of these in a screen with a 21:9 format. Those of you still in the spell cast by this out-of-the-world telly – looks like the spell is going to last all eternity! Because Philips LCD TV has announced a 3D version of this amazing piece of entertainment.

Giving away the good news during a yearly product launch at Barcelona, the Dutch electronics corporation also unveiled  its 8000 and 9000 series of 3D TVs. While the Philips 9000 series of 3D TVs will be available in 32, 40 and 46 inch versions, the 8000 series will come in 37, 40, 46 and 52 inch versions. According to Philips, both the 3D series will be equipped with Wifi, DLNA, Net TV support and of course, the Ambilight system.

The 9000 series boasts a 400MHz  refresh rate and the 8000 series is quoted to have a 200MHz.refresh rate. All of Philips’ 3D TV series apparently use ‘active shutter’ technology, where in the user has to wear 3D glasses that consist of  LCD active shutters. We don’t have any information on pricing, though it’s said that these 3D TVs will supposedly hit the stores late summer this year.
