ivor the engine Ivor The Engine chug chugs back on trackIvor The Engine is back! The whistle talking, self-driving, fun-loving green locomotive has been brought to life again, all thanks to the creator’s son. The children’s television series which was last seen in 1977 has now been given a new life in the form of a book titled ‘Bluebell’s Christmas Mission‘ that will be used as a fund-raiser for a charity. Dan Postgate, son of Ivor’s creator Oliver Postgate, has authored this book with Peter Firmin, the original illustrator of the animation series.

Bluebell’s Christmas Mission is set in the backdrop of the snowy Wales on Christmas and as the name suggests, will star Bluebell the donkey who enjoys simply sitting around with Ivor. The book will fund SPANA (Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad), a UK veterinary charity. Illustrator Peter Firmin visited the charity with his daughter Emily in October and was impressed with how SPANA improved the lives of people who depended on working animals and the veterinary care it provided to sick and injured animals.

“I was a bit daunted by the prospect of slipping in to my dad’s HushPuppies and composing a new story.” said writer Dan Postgate. He hoped that he brought out the flavour of the original series and said that he was thrilled to have his book illustrated by Peter Firmin which gave it a ‘stamp of authenticity’.
