Internet beats television in advertisement expenditure

October 2, 2009

happy family-lcdtvreviews.org.ukA recent report by the Internet Advertising Bureau showed that advertisers in the UK spent more money in internet than the most popular media, television. This makes UK the first major economy in the world where the internet beat television in terms of  advertisement expenditure. According to the report, from January to June 2009, brands spent £1.75 billion on online advertising while £1.64 billion was spent on television advertising.

Of the £1.75 billion spent online, £1.05 billion (60%) was spent on  search advertising of which a major chunk would have gone to the search engine giant, Google. Ian Maude, the head of Internet at Enders Analysis said that search advertising is bigger in the UK than in any other part of the world. He indicated that the major reason behind this was E-commerce, followed by financial services and travel companies.

Mr  Maude also said that having overtaken ITV, Google is presently earning the most from advertising expenditure in the UK.
