How television helped a woman defeat her fear of birds

December 12, 2009

bird-lcdtvreviews.org.ukThe fear of birds kept Andrea Lloyd from leading a normal life for fifteen years. She would sit at home fearing these “flying rats” that gave her a pain in her head and chest if she clapped eyes on them. She said that her hands would become sweaty and that it would take her breath away. The 35-year old couldn’t leave home by herself and couldn’t work either. But now, she has conquered her fear with the help of a TV show.

‘Make Me Happier’ is the show in STV that changed Andrea’s life. Tuesday’s programme will show how she got the better of her phobia for birds. She will be assisted by presenters Angus Purden and Lorraine Kelly along with therapist Rick Maczka who will be seen showing her cartoon pictures of birds. The therapist will then advance to photographs and moving images and further to a little chick and a 2ft cockatiel.

The show gave her a new lease of life with which she plans to start a new family, open a farm and a riding school for the disadvantaged children. A revived Andrea said that she can now look at birds without the ‘fear factor’ that she used to have.
