DisplaySearch: Global LCD market may face supply shortage in 2010

According to research company DisplaySearch, there could be a supply shortage in the global LCD market in the second quarter of 2010 due to increase in demand after the current economic weakness. David Hsieh, vice-president of the display industry watcher said that though the demand was weak now, there could could be a shortage  in Q2 next year as TV manufacturers will tend to buy panels before the start of the peak season again.

He also added that the LCD market has not matured as yet and that China was a ‘key growth market’ that could become the largest LCD TV consumer in the world by 2011, overtaking North America. Some industry experts also predict that the sales of LCDs could face a downcycle in 2010 after several months of strong sales, if the demand tended to drop. DisplaySearch also revealed that after the estimated decline of 15% this year, flat panel sales could see a global rise of 5% next year.
