Chi Mei Optoelectronics Corp signs lucrative contract with Sony
Chi Mei Optoelectronics Corp has reportedly received a contract from Japanese electronics giant Sony to supply 5 million LCD TV panels. In a report in Taiwan’s Economic Daily, it is stated that Chi Mei’s parent company Hon Hai Industry Co assisted it in obtaining the lucrative contract. It also should be noted that Samsung Electronics was Sony’s previous supplier of LCD TV panels and it is unclear as to why Sony LCD television has given Chi Mei the Brobdingnagian contract.
The value of the contract was however kept under wraps. Chi Mei Optoelectronics Corp is presently the second largest TFT-LCD panel maker in Taiwan and the fourth largest in the world. If the subsidiary merges with TPO Display Corp and Innolux Display Co in March this year as announced, it will be Taiwan’s largest manufacturer of LCD televisions panels. Founded in the year 1997, Chi Mei Optoelectronics Corp is reportedly the proprietor of American consumer electronics manufacturer Westinghouse Digital Electronics LLC.
