BBC comedy series moves from internet to television

fresh-lcdtvreviews.org.uk‘Fresh’, a comedy series that was featured in Switch, the BBC’s teenage website gets the thumbs up for seven half-hour episodes on BBC Three. The series initially began with five-minute videos in Switch and is based on the lives of a group of five students who start university together, the joys of independence for the first time, magic love potions, sumo-wrestling and ‘accidentally falling in love.’ According to the BBC, Fresh is the first UK comedy to make the transition from the online medium to television.

The series to be aired in BBC three in September will be a continuation of the last webisode. Nick Hamm, the executive producer of Fresh says that the ‘evolution’ of the show from internet to television is an indicator of a wider trend in the industry where the need to respond to the audience’s need of receiving content across several platforms is being met by programme makers.
