August 25, 2009

Mobile TV-lcdtvreviews.org.ukThough mobile TV has had a very slow start, analysts in the industry predict that by 2013, there will be atleast 300 million viewers of mobile TV across the world. They also expect the number of mobile phone users to increase to 54 million this year. It it believed that the biggest potential lies in the emerging markets. The conjugation of television and mobile phone in a single gadget did raise hopes amidst industry experts that mobile TV will be welcomed with open arms. But it appears that it was not the case.

A research indicated that mobile TV was watched at least three times in a week and that 20% of the users watched it daily. Another study revealed that mobile TV users viewed it at least 30 minutes on days when they tuned in. Though not a significant amount, experts believe that 30 minutes per day is substantial.

Jonathan Barzilay, the senior vice president of programming and advertising of Flo TV reportedly said that the Michael Jackson memorial service was that most watched programme in Flo TV, after the presidential election. He also indicated that sports and live news attracted a lot of viewership. With research pointing out that over 85% of the world population will have access to analogue signals for years to come, experts believe that mobile TV will gain ground if they are furnished by funds from advertising instead of subscriptions.
