40th Anniversary Of Moon Landing
Monday, July 20th marked the 40th anniversary of the first moon landing. It was on the same day of 1969 that the crew of Apollo 11 Mission landed on the moon and American astronaut, Neil Armstrong first walked on the Moon. The other two astronauts who accompanied him were Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins. Aldrin was the second man to walk on the Moon and Collins circled the Moon in a command module. This event was a giant leap for the mankind.
Apollo 11 mission was the first manned mission to land on the Moon. It accomplished President John F. Kennedy’s goal of reaching the moon by the end of the 1960s.
To commemorate the 40th anniversary of this historic event a ceremony was held at the White House on Monday where President Barack Obama praised the astronauts.
The search engine leader, Google Earth has launched an interactive 3D atlas of the moon to mark the historic occasion. This atlas allows you to take virtual steps on the Moon.
