January 20, 2010

LG-3D-displayLeading display market researcher DisplaySearch has predicted that the global LCD TV shipments will reach a total of 171 million units this year. Shipments in emerging markets such as China, Brazil and India are expected to reach  36-37 million units, 10 million and 18 million units respectively. DisplaySearch attributes this increase to the strong demands for LED TVs and 3D TVs in the said markets. While 3D TVs have not hit the mainstream markets as yet, several top manufacturers have announced plans to launch them early this year.

DisplaySearch also indicated that leading electronic giants like Samsung, Sony, Sharp, LG and Vizio will further elevate global shipments of LED-backlit LCD TVs (often referred to as LED TVs) to reach 32 million units in 2010. According to a report in the Digitimes, the global 3D TV shipments could reach 1 million units with Japanese electronics giant Sony expecting 3D integrated TVs to reach 30-40 million units is 2013.
