Yes, the AMOLED technology makes this exciting possibility come true. AMOLEDS are Organic Light Emitting Devices (OLEDs) combined with Thin Film Transistors (TFTs). The AMOLEDs, attributed for the most attractive flat panel displays in the recent years, have an extensive potential for use, right from small panel applications like mobile phone displays to also larger applications like the TV screens.

The AMOLED technology suggests a number of exciting possibilities for consumer-oriented products including high resolution mobile TVs and video files. The AMOLED is merited for its high efficiency, luxurious brightness and fast response times. The active matrix OLEDs are currently used in small to medium scale applications like cellphone screens. However, it is envisaged that larger applications such as computer monitors, large TV screens and notebooks will employ the AMOLED technology, and even flexible screens are being ideated.

AMOLED Technology- a new dimension in the world of entertainmentAMOLED has attracted significant interest for flat panel displays due to their compactness and brightness. AMOLEDs are proven to cut down on power consumption, thus offering longer battery lives, ascribable to a unique feature that automatically adjusts the brightness of the screen. The technology also boasts of an RGB separated Gamma adjustment feature that is capable of providing more lifelike videos and still images with superior and stable colors.

AMOLEDs – Technically Explained

By construction, AMOLEDs are multi-layered. There are layers of anodes, cathodes and organic molecules. A TFT (Thin Film transistor) array that forms a matrix of picture elements sheaths the anode layer. An electric current flows between the two films of organic molecules and each pixel in the matrix is directly activated. The TFT array determines which pixels get turned on to form an image. This allows for designs that are lighter and thinner than other display types. Images are reproduced at the speed of light, and they turn out to be more natural looking. The possibility of ghosting effects commonly seen in fast-paced video sequences such as sporting events are thus eliminated. AMOLEDs qualify for use in large displays because they consume less power. These characteristics have proven the AMOLED display to be ideal for video applications.

AMOLEDs In The World Market

AMOLED Technology- a new dimension in the world of entertainmentWhile there are reports of suppliers opting not to include AMOLEDs in their businesses due to high production costs and circumscribed consumer requirements, there is no barricade in the technological advancement. A number of leading companies like Nokia, Samsung and LG, see a potential for working with the AMOLED technology. There is fresh news that the mobile colossus Nokia, has been approached by LG Display for talks on supplying AMOLED touch screens. Though some technical issues hang on, the actual shipping is said to materialize in a year. LG Display, which follows Samsung Electronics in the world market of LCD displays, is stepping up the company’s investment in AMOLEDs. The move is believed to supplant the most prevailing LCD and Plasma technologies in the global level. The renowned IGNIS Innovation Inc, by revealing a prototype display of its leading backplane technology – MaxLife (TM), has considerably thinned the technological constraints on the AMOLED. This flexible MaxLife technology compensates for critical factors that encumber the growth of the AMOLEDs. With this technology, achieving a genuinely reliable and uniform backplane for the AMOLEDs, is considered to be less challenging.

The dazing quality of the images brought out by the AMOLED has never been under interrogation and the active-matrix technology is researched to eclipse the world market in the succeeding generation of displays, irrespective of the existing commercial viability issues.
