Mirror, mirror, on the wall…

magical mirror Mirror, mirror, on the wall...You walk into the trial room and decide to try a purple sequin top half dress and a black lace corsage one. Press a button here and a button there and voila, within a few seconds the lace corsage dress is wrapped around your body, the smooth satiny fabric doing wonders for your figure. But wait, before you finalise, you try the sequin top half dress with just the flick of a button and decide to go for it, for the purple looks rather regal. You walk into the store and leave home with the shopping bag with a spring in your step, for your shopping took less than 15 minutes of your busy day.

Sounds impossible? With the “Magical Mirror”, it is. Ladies, it’s now possible to realise all your girlhood fantasies. You can try out every possible dress that your heart desires, even the skimpy red dress that you always wondered how it’ll look on you, without actually putting them on. Furutanisangyou Co Ltd is in the process of testing this product whose idea was probably inspired from witch Morgan le Fay.  “Magical Mirror” is a device that lets shoppers try on clothes without having to actually wear them physically.

The device has a Full HD LCD display which functions as a virtual mirror. When the user is positioned before it, several cameras work simultaneously to superimpose their image and those of the clothes. The user can thus see how well the clothes fit him/her without actually trying them on. Magical Mirror also sports a function that can measure the user’s physical constitution and process the images of the outfits such that they fit perfectly.

Magical Mirror will be tested in an underground mall in Okasa, Japan where the clothes will be sold. The user can try out clothes form different shops and check if they are available in the required sizes before actually visiting the stores, thus saving time. They can then purchase the clothes that they tried on from the stores. One can try on up to six kinds of clothing like coats, dresses, sweaters, shirts and pants/skirts including inner garments.

Furutanisangyou is reportedly planning to increase the number of apparel that can be tried on from six to nine by October 2010 and also add the possibility of displaying the shopper’s images taken form the sides and back by October 2011. The company also said that Magical Mirror eliminates the need to go to several stores and “enables to try a combination of clothes that are being sold at different stores.”
