The Liquid Crystal Display television has become a favourite choice of the consumers, thanks to the superior technology involved therein. In the early stages of its introduction in the market, there were many areas where the qualitative improvements found wanting. But the manufacturers took note of the deficiencies then and there to initiate remedial action. Many of the problems indicted in the consumer complaints and product reviews were attended to and rectified. From the beginning screen resolution was an irritant factor to be reckoned with. This was a problematic issue in all high definition TVs, but in LCD the situation was really bad. Technological up gradation could bring in substantial changes in the performance of the product. Apart from the contrast ratio, response time, colour depth and blurring are areas that required qualitative improvements.

Periodical remedial action could bring positive results. LCD technology is now acknowledged as a superb one among the television products, but intensive efforts were made to achieve such a status.  Full HD LCD television is one glaring feature that contributed towards perfection. As already mentioned, screen resolution was problematic in the high definition television. There was an erroneous notion among the consumers that HD Ready LCD TV is the answer for screen resolution issues. But experience proved that it is not the ultimate answer in that respect. An HD Ready LCD with a WXGA resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels is sufficient for display of 720p and 1080i formats. But in reality 1080i signals will have to be scaled down to make it compatible with the given screen resolution. To attain perfection, in the case of 1080i signals, the screen resolution should be 1920×1080 pixels. Such a screen resolution is termed as Full HD by the experts in the field.

Again, the latest 1080p adopted in DVD players etc also need improved screen resolution. But the problem is that all 1920 x 1080 pixel screens are not compatible with 1080p input. The standards specified for HD ready technology do not indicate that the system should be compatible to 1080p. It should be suited only for 720p and 1080i formats as per the specifications mentioned above. It is therefore necessary for those users who want to operate devices like HD DVD players of blue ray technology, to opt for a screen resolution that supports 1080p.

The choice of the screen resolution depends on the users requirements. In normal circumstances LCD television with Full HD nomenclature will suit the purpose. However consumers should exercise their discretions in this respect. They can choose from an array of Full HD LCD televisions available in the market. It is better to consult dealers or experts to clarify the technological aspects of the products. However it is for the shopper to ensure that the choice of the product is compatible to the specific requirements.
