LG 26LX2R LCD TV Review

The LG26LX2R is stunning, both in the looks and the performance department. The TV looks stylish and futuristic in piano black with silver undersides and stand. Hiding behind the great looks is a true high resolution, HD ready package that does justice to the price you pay. This model features the XD image enhancement technology which delivers true-to-life images on any standard video signals making them look like HDTV signals.

Key Specifications

 Display

  • Native resolution XGA 1366 x 768 pixels
  • Aspect ratio 16:9
  • XD image enhancement technology
  • Response time : 8 ms
  • Contrast ratio 1200:1
  • Brightness 600 d/cm2

Pros

This model has one of the best high resolution LCD panels available in the market with a decent response time (8 ms). The XD chip comes into its own with external HDTV and DVD sources connected through HDMI. Also, with inbuilt support for 720p and 1080i formats, games on consoles like the Xbox look amazingly true-to-life with no noticeable blur or ghosting.

Cons

The response time of 8 ms sometimes leads to blurring in extremely fast action sequences. The other problem with the display is the poor reproduction of black. This becomes evident in darker scenes which look dull and flat.

Connectivity

  • One DVI/HDMI input connection (with dedicated phono input for DVI)
  • Component video input (YPbPr) accepting 720P & 1080i input
  • PC Interface: VGA (HD-15)
  • Two SCART inputs

This model really scores in the connectivity department with two SCART inputs, a HDMI and a PC interface.

 Audio

  • Two 10 watts Speakers
  • Stereo sound (SRS WOW)

When it comes to the sound department, the performance is average. The speakers deliver good quality stereo sound but will not set your pulses racing when watching an edge-of-the seat movie. But with the right external hardware plugged in, this TV can really pack and punch.

Additional features

This model features an integrated digital tuner for PAL, NTSC and SECAM broadcast standards, making it an international package. It also features a PIP (Picture in Picture) functionality which is also used for the multi-channel preview feature.

Bottomline

The LG26LX2R is a true combination of beauty and purpose. Its superior resolution, display capability, and various connectivity options make it one of the best in its category. The advantages of this package far outnumber the limitations and offer the best compromise in terms of performance and price for the customer.
